The Rural Ministry Unit (RMU) has existed within the NSW Synod for the last 25 years. It has been a place of support for those in rural ministry – lay and ordained. It has undertaken advocacy to the church and government on behalf of both rural congregations and communities. It publishes Ruminations as a means of support, encouragement and promoting new ideas. In partnership with UME, it holds a biennial conference which focuses on rural ministry but not only from a church perspective. Its members represent a range of regional and rural Presbyteries, who meet quarterly. In recent years it has advocated and then agitated for rural chaplains and has taken on tasks of oversight and support of the chaplains.
